When Should You Repeat a Website Accessibility Audit?!!

Currently writing post check back often.
A website accessibility audit describes findings for a particular evaluation scope and point in time. As a site changes, the findings may no longer reflect its current pages, code, content, or user journeys.
Kaffeinated Kodemonkey recommends renewing the Proof of Compliance Certificate (POCC) annually or after a major website update. The right timing depends on how often the site changes, the evaluation scope, and the organization’s documentation needs.
Consider a new evaluation after major changes
Some updates can change how people navigate and use a website. Consider discussing a new or expanded evaluation when your organization:
- Redesigns the site or replaces major page templates
- Adds or changes key forms, account flows, or other interactive features
- Moves to a new content management system or frontend platform
- Publishes a large amount of new content or restructures navigation
- Adds third-party tools, such as payment, scheduling, or embedded media services
- Completes remediation and needs findings checked against the agreed scope
These changes do not all require the same response. A targeted retest may suit a limited set of fixes, while a substantial redesign may call for a broader evaluation. The scope should be agreed based on the change and the questions the organization needs answered.
Why review the audit every year?
Even without a major redesign, websites evolve through routine content updates, software releases, and changes to integrations. An annual review gives an organization an opportunity to reassess its site and refresh documentation against a current, agreed evaluation scope.
The POCC is a documentation package associated with the evaluation. Renewing it means updating the evaluation and supporting documents as scoped; it does not guarantee that every barrier across the entire website has been identified or that the site will remain unchanged afterward.
Use monitoring between evaluations
Automated monitoring can help teams review detectable issues on configured pages as content and code change. Client teams can use the platform to review scan findings and decide what needs investigation. Monitoring supports ongoing visibility, but automated scans do not replace a manual WCAG evaluation.
Kaffeinated Kodemonkey’s monitoring service includes client platform access and a quarterly WCAG evaluation documented in a WCAG Evaluation Audit Report (WEAR), with supporting POCC documentation within the agreed scope. See the website accessibility monitoring service for details.
Plan the next evaluation
If your site has changed significantly or its last evaluation no longer matches your needs, review the WCAG accessibility audit and POCC service. The scoping discussion can define which pages, templates, interactions, and criteria to evaluate and whether a targeted retest or broader audit is appropriate.
